Winmalee RFS Facebook 2 Sep 2023

Congratulations to WInmalee RFS life member Terry Matchett on being awarded volunteer of the year at Springwood Festival on Saturday 2 September.

Terry has been an active member of Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade since 1975. During this time he has attended many bushfires in Winmalee and the wider Blue Mountains.

He has served as a Deputy Captain and Senior Deputy Captain of the brigade. He first became a deputy captain in 1983, and he served the community for some decades in a field officer role.

He has served on the brigades executive since 2017, as Vice President, a role he still fulfils today.

He has been an Equipment Officer at the brigade since 1976, maintaining and repairing equipment, vehicles and the brigade generator, a role he actively attends to at least twice a week to this day.

Terry is a quiet achiever, offering stability and his years of experiences, tirelessly to Winmalee Brigade, to the benefit of the wider community.

Terry was very much surprised to receive the award. He was picked up 15 minutes prior to the presentation from his other passion, Valley Heights Railway Museum where he also volunteers, restoring and maintaining trains and serves as Workshop Manager.
